Why is Injury Prevention Important?
Unintentional injury remains the leading cause of death and disability in people ages 1 – 44 years. Many of these injuries remain preventable. Through careful data collection and analysis, we can predict when, how and why injuries occur and develop strategies to prevent them.
How do we Prevent Injuries?
Injuries can be prevented through several avenues:
- Legislation and environmental change
- Provider and Community Education
- Prevention program Implementation
Regionally these avenues are accomplished in part with the help of the Metrolina Trauma Advisory Committee’s Injury Prevention committee.
The committee is a group of regional healthcare providers and injury prevention advocates whose mission is to reduce and prevent injury, disability and death by networking and collaboration in the areas of program development, information sharing, training, education.
