In effectively meeting the goals of medical response, the development of a “State Medical Response System” (SMRS) provided a coordinated and effective means of a tiered response. These efforts involved the empowerment of response to responsible parties “State Medical Assistance Teams” (SMAT teams) on the state, regional and local level.
The State Medical Response System (SMRS) is made available in deploying to many different types of missions including:

• Assistance (Manpower) Only

• Alternative Care Facility Mission

• Mass Immunization/Vaccination and Distribution Center

• Weapons of Mass Destruction/ Decontamination Mission
