Level I
A Level I trauma center provides the highest level of specialty care for adult and pediatric injuries. The trauma center serves as a regional resource that not only provides care for any injury but also prevention and research.
To maintain designation as a Level I center, the facility must provide a promptly available trauma team. The team consists of an emergency medicine physician, trauma surgeon, anesthesiologist, and nursing personal specialized in managing traumatic injury. The center must also have a full-range of sub-specialists promptly available.
Level II
A Level II trauma center also provides specialty care for both the injured adult and pediatric patient. However, may require transfer of the patient suffering complex injuries to a Level I center with additional specialty services
Level III
A Level III trauma center provides emergent injury management and stabilization for communities without immediate access to a Level I or II center. The Center affords rapid assessment, resuscitation, emergency operation, and/or stabilization prior to transfer to a Level I or II trauma center. |
