Serving the needs of regional trauma and disaster system development, The MTAC includes membership and collaboration with the twenty-one hospitals and nine EMS systems of the southern piedmont region. Carolinas Medical Center, flagship facility of Carolinas Healthcare System and the regions only Level I trauma center provides MTAC leadership and responsibilities in developmental processes. The MTAC region also boasts its compliment of trauma center resources to include Cleveland Regional Medical Center and CMC Northeast, two of the only three North Carolina Level III centers.

Approaches in MTAC daily development are fostered through collegiality of its members and related to areas of trauma performance improvement, system surveillance, injury prevention, education and disaster preparedness.
