"Superior Trauma Care through education and system collaboration!"
Hello All, I would like to introduce myself to the MTAC Community. My name is Mr. Kelly Monteruil, I am the new Metrolina Trauma Advisory Committee Coordinator. I am very excited to be working in the MTAC region with all of you. I have a tremendous amount of passion for trauma and pre-hospital care. I have 16 years of flight nursing experience, most recently 5 years with MedCenter Air. I have many years of EMS experience working as a Paramedic/Firefighter in a rural and semi-rural environment in Northern Michigan. I also have an extended background in cardiology and critical care nursing.
Dr. Ronald Sing will also be transitioning into his new role as the MTAC Medical Director. We have already begun discussing a strategy to get out and meet as many of you as possible at your site. Meeting at your site will allow us to better understand the unique strengths and challenges of your area as we work to continue the excellent trauma care throughout the MTAC region. Dr. Sing and I both believe the strong clinical talent pool among all credentials within the MTAC region will provide all of us with a tremendous opportunity to enhance our trauma care even further as we continue the excellent progress made by George Ross and Dr. Fischer.
One of the first things that I would like to offer is the continued access to patient follow-ups. One of the best forms of education is patient follow-ups. Unfortunately, HIPPA laws have made patient information sharing more difficult over the years. Until a more streamlined follow up request process is implemented, please channel all of your follow up requests through your Trauma Program Director, Trauma Program Educator, Trauma Program Medical Director, ED Director, ED Educator, EMS Director, EMS Assistant/Deputy Director, or EMS Training Officer. Due to sheer volume, please use some discretion when requesting follow up information. Obviously, the follow up information that I provide will require strict HIPPA confidentiality compliance.
Please allow some time as Dr. Sing and I transition into our new roles. In the meantime, please feel free to make suggestions that could improve the trauma care throughout the region. Suggestions are ALWAYS welcome!!!
I look forward to personally meeting and working with all of you,
Kelly Monteruil, BSN, NREMT-P
